In collaboration with the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) Training Division, MAWLE will host a training session entitled “Female Enforcers.” The training, presented by Calibre Press, will focus on battling bias, promotion and advancing to the next level, leadership and mentoring, and tactics training and equipment.

This is a one-day program created especially for MAWLE members. Those who have MPTC Acadis Portal access can register through the portal. Those that do not have Acadis access should email mptcacadis@mass.gov to register. The training is free to attend.

The course will be taught by Calibre Press’ Deputy Chief (Ret.) Cyndy Velazquez, who was a Chicago suburban police officer for more than 30 years. She has served as a patrol officer, Sergeant, Detective, Lieutenant, and Commander of the Investigations Unit. She was the department’s first female Deputy Chief, and was also named the first female Assistant Commander for the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Behavior and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement Administration. She served in the United States Army and was granted the Outstanding Squad Leader Award. She attended the Northwestern University School of Staff and Command and is currently a defensive tactics and physical fitness instructor at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy where she was named Instructor of the Year in 2013. She also has taught Rape Prevention classes.

Deputy Chief Velazquez has been an instructor for Calibre Press since 2013 and serves as the lead and subject matter expert on all female-specific courses.

“We are thrilled to be hosting this course and thank the MPTC and Calibre Press for providing our members with this opportunity,” said MAWLE Vice President Erin Carcia. “The course covers many topics and is specifically tailored to the unique experiences of women in law enforcement, and we encourage our members to register to attend.”
